JAIME JACKETT - AUGUST 14TH

Austral-Canadian song-weaver Jaime Jackett is anything but your stereotypical ”girl + piano”.

A seasoned performer, she is one part of internationally-collaborative folk-pop trio, Belle Miners, who’ve toured 6 countries in 2018, and Australia annually for 6 years.

The Broome-based artist’s work draws inspiration from the eclectic and naturally rich environment surrounding her adopted home: the vastness of the clear, dark Kimberley skies, and the vivid contrast of rusted earth against the milky turquoise Roebuck Bay.  This ancient, breathing land whose vastness reveals how insignificant our lives are, humbles and yet empowers Jackett, who allows all of this colour and light to materialise through her songwriting.

After spending 4 years living a half-hour journey from town down a corrugated red dirt road, Jackett’s new work explores polarities in her life.  She writes what she sees in her wider community, and the challenges women face throughout different periods of their lives.

Looping beats and bass lines, she layers harmonies to build a vocal soundscape to shape her songs.  Accompanying herself on keyboards, her cleverly penned pieces glitter with hints of soul, theatre, jazz and roots.

Her performances have been noted for her vibrant presence and dynamic voice that ranges from glass-clear and sweet, to blues-drenched wails.
